Main Ingredients:
  • 1/3cupCooked Moong Dal(3 tbsp of Moong Dal cooked)
  • 1Large Potato Boiled
  • 1Large Onion Finely Chopped
  • 2Medium Tomatoes Finely Chopped
  • 3-4Garlic Pods Finely Chopped
  • 1/4tspTurmeric Powder
  • 2tspOil
  • 1tspMustard Seeds
  • 1/2tspCumin Seeds
  • 1/8tspAsafoetida
  • Few Fresh Curry Leaves
  • Salt as needed
  • Water as needed
Masala Paste:
  • 1/2cupGrated Coconut
  • 1tbspFried Gram
  • 1tspPoppy Seeds
  • 1tspFennel Seeds
  • 2-3Green Chillies
  • Water as needed

  • 2Medium Tomatoes Finely Chopped
  • 3-4Garlic Pods Finely Chopped
  • 1/4tspTurmeric Powder
  • 2tspOil

  • 1/2tspCumin Seeds
  • 1/8tspAsafoetida
  • Few Fresh Curry Leaves
  • Salt as needed
  • Water as needed
Masala Paste:
  • 1/2cupGrated Coconut
  • 1tbspFried Gram
  • 1tspPoppy Seeds
  • 1tspFennel Seeds
  • 2-3Green Chillies
  • Water as needed
Kumbakonam Kadappa
Instructions
  1. In a thick bottomed pan, heat oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds, as they begin to pop up add fresh curry leaves and chopped garlic. Cook for a few seconds.
  2. Add finely chopped onions and fry until translucent.
  3. Next add finely chopped tomatoes and cook until mushy. And then add turmeric powder.
  4. Add chopped boiled potatoes.
  5. Cook everything together for 3-4 mins.
  6. Meanwhile, add all the ingredients under masala paste and grind into a smooth paste.
  7. Add this paste to the cooked onion, tomatoes and potatoes.
  8. Add 1/2 cup of water and cook the masala paste for 3-4 mins. Then add cooked moong dal.
  9. Cook the Kadapa until it begins to boil and comes together. Remove from heat.
  10. Serve it hot with idli, dosa or chapati or poori.
